Police in Dowa are keeping in custody three health workers and a guard on suspicion of stealing medical drugs and equipment at Dowa District Hospital.
The three staff members have been identified as Pearson Tembo, 33, a Clinician; Kondwani Chibwe a technician who is 20 years and a nurse James Nkhoma aged 34.
The guard has been identified as 29 year-old Mphatso Malenga.
According to Dowa Police Station's Spokesperson Richard Kaponda, the district hospital’s management reported the matter to the law enforcers.
It is reported that a guard at the hospital confronted one of the suspects, as he was trying to exit the hospital’s premises with a Laptop bag containing medical drugs.
Police believe the suspect planned to sale the drugs to Takondwa Private Clinic whose owner is still at large.
Kaponda said the four suspects will appear before the Dowa First Grade Magistrate court to answer the offence of Theft by Public Servant upon completion of all the investigations.
Pearson Tembo hails from of Mzanya Jere village, Traditional Authority Mpherembe in Mzimba, Kondwani Chibwe hails from Wenela village, and James Nkhoma, from Lirambwe village, both from Traditional Authority Msakambewa, in Dowa district.
And Mphatso Malenga, comes from Chisepo village, Traditional Authority Kayembe, in Dowa district.
