Addressing the influx of street children in Blantrye and Lilongwe

The Ministry of gender, children, disability and social welfare says there is need for stakeholders to work hand in hand with government to address the influx of street children.

Minister responsible Jean Kalilani made the remarks on Wednesday during commemorations of international day of street children in Lilongwe.

According to Kalilani, her ministry is working tirelessly to ensure that children who are found loitering in the streets are given a home.

She cited the Lilongwe Charter as one of interventions that will help give policy direction to child rights organization on how best the issue of street children can be addressed.

Estimates indicate that country has over five thousand street kids in Blantyre and Lilongwe.
