The 2017 FMB under 20 national finals will take place this weekend at Mulanje Park Stadium from 24-25 of November.
The first semifinal match will see the host Mathambi Soccer Saints of Mulanje playing against northern region representatives Anwecka FC of Mzuzu and in the second semifinal, defending champions Silver Strikers Reserves who are representing Central Region will take on the hot favorites Griffin Young Stars from Blantyre who are representing southern region on 24th November.
The winners from the first and second semifinals will meet each other in the final on 25th November and the overall winner is expected to walk away with K1 million.
National Youth Football Association General Secretary Thoko Chimbali has assured Malawians that they should expect quality football as the teams that have reached the national finals are the best.
‘’People should come in large numbers at Mulanje Park Stadium to experience quality football from the young players who I can describe as best since they have defeated all odds in their respective districts and on regional level as well now they are on the national phase,’’ Chimbali said.
According to FMB marketing manager Widdey Nsona, the league which is fully sponsored by First Merchant Bank to the tune of K24 million has a possibility of extension next season.
“The league only involved 12 districts in the country and as a friendly bank we want to reach out to as many people as we can and if all goes well we plan to extend to other districts and we are very much excited as sponsors with the way the national youth football association is running the league and the level of completion is always high,’’ Nsona said.
The sponsors, FMB have promised fireworks during the national finals and have kept a few surprises for both the games and the teams.
Last year the national final were played at the Mzuzu stadium which Silver Strikers Reserve were crowned champions after defeating Mtopwa super boys by a single goal to nil.
