The Chamber of Mines has expressed worry over government’s delay to launch the small scale mining policy.
Speaking to Newsline the Chamber’s National Coordinator Glen Malunga said recent revelations of increased small scale mining put the development of artisanal miners at risk.
Malunga said without the framework, lives of the miners are put in danger as they ventured into the business without consideration of safety measures.
Malunga said the Chamber is setting up plans to engage the small scale miners to ensure they are not being exploited.
However, Malunga said the formulation of a strong policy will make a huge difference in protecting artisanal miners.
