The Parliamentary Committee on Education has called for substantial increase in education financing.
Chairperson of the committee Dr Elias Chakwera was speaking after the National Assembly approved an increase in allocation to the Ministry of Education, Science and Technology.
The House has approved an increase of over Five Million Kwacha.
The Committee said Malawi has made various pledges including the 2018 Dakar pledge conference to increase allocation by thirty-one percent but to date this is not being fulfilled.
According to the Parliamentary Committee on Education, there is still need to pump in more resources in the education sector to address numerous challenges affecting the area.
The house has also increased allocation to the Ministry of Agriculture to the tune of over Thirty-eight Billion Kwacha.
The house has added Two Billion Kwacha to the Ministry of Health while the Roads Fund Administration has seen a decrease in the budget review votes with a Seven Billion Kwacha cut.
The Ministry of Gender, Children and Disability, has had its allocation trimmed by over Five Million Kwacha.
