Youth in Ntchisi have expressed the need for stakeholders to engage in more awareness campaigns on the role of the youth in the development of Malawi.
This was disclosed on Tuesday during the opening of a three day workshop aimed at enhancing youth participation in governance.
According to representatives of youth action committees drawn from seven traditional authorities in the district, most young people are not aware of their role in development works taking place in their respective areas.
The youth participants added that most of the time they are not able to track development activities because they are not fully represented in decision making at various circles of development committees.
One of the participants, Timothy Mkupatira Chairperson of Youth Action Development committee—emphasized the need for young people to strive for more representation in governance structures in communities.
He also added the need for authorities to include youths who are active participants at youth clubs in the village development committees to have a true reflection of youth aspirations.
Plan International Malawi is funding the three year project which began in 2016.
At the moment the project is being implemented in Kasungu, Nkhotakota and Ntchisi.
