Limbe Police has reduced defilement cases by 24% in the first two months of 2018.
Limbe Deputy Police spokesperson Widson Nhlane said this is from the months of January and February.
According to Nhlane, the station has registered 13 defilement cases this year compared to 17 cases which were recorded in 2017 during the same period.
He however said this has happened following sensitization campaigns which are being conducted in various locations within the policing area and stiffer punishments the courts are imposing on defilers.
Police is working with members of the public on how best to end the malpractice and one of the programs is called “Youth Outreach and Schools Program”.
Defilement cases attract a maximum sentence of life imprisonment with hard labor.
