Ecoride is currently operating in Blantyre and Lilongwe cities
Ecoride, the first company in Malawi that uses a smartphone application to provide taxi services has adjusted taxi fares due to the increment of fuel prices in the country.
The new fares were effected following the Malawi Energy Regulatory Authority (MERA) on October 6, 2018 effected new fuel prices, including Petro by 5.87 percent.
According to a press statement made available to Newsline, Ecoride is now charging K350 from K300 per kilometer.
Ecoride is a Malawian company founded and head quartered in Blantyre. The company develops and operates the Ecoride smartphone application that connects riders (customers) with taxi drivers.
Currently, Ecoride operates in Blantyre and Lilongwe with plans to go beyond the two cities underway.
“It is a technology platform that uses a smartphone application to connect riders with drivers.
“The application can be downloaded from Google Play Store, upon downloading the customers need to register their details on the app and once this is done the application is ready for use.
“When one is in need of a taxi he or she has to open the app and enter their location and their destination and the application will search the nearest driver who is going to be at the location of the customer in no time,” reads the statement in part.
“Since the app use Google maps, there is no need for riders to go to the taxi ranks since the drivers will be guided to their location using the Google maps. Please note that customers cannot access the taxi service without using the app,” the statement added.
