President Peter Mutharika says foreign direct investment is vital in boosting the country’s economic transformation.
Mutharika was speaking on Wednesday when he presided over the ground breaking ceremony for the construction of Grand Business Park in the capital Lilongwe.
The president said the direct investment is as a result of the Malawi Investment Forum which took place in June 2015.
Mutharika said Malawi has the capacity of attracting big investments and that if given all the required resources can turn into a big economic hub in the whole Southern African region.
The Malawi leader further said infrastructure development has potential of providing jobs to young people who are currently graduating from the community technical colleges.
Mutharika said most investors in the country, started their operations soon after the 2014 tripartite elections when he took power.
He said so since 2014 about 3.7 billion us dollars is in circulation due to such investments.
However Mutharika took a swipe at the opposition leaders who are opposing his development agenda saying with such forces Malawi cannot move forward.
