Government acknowledges the role of the media in the development of Malawi

Government says it holds in high esteem the media’s role in the country’s development.
The remarks have come as Malawi joined the global community in commemorating World Press Freedom Day, which is annually celebrated on May 3rd.
Speaking to Newsline, Minister of Information and Communications Technology Nicholas Dausi has said though there are instances where government and the media have locked horns, government appreciates the media’s contribution to development.
Dausi said government will continue promoting media freedom by ensuring that media rights are not infringed upon.
However, he was quick to urge media practitioners to execute their duties in adherence to ethics.
Celebrations marking the day will be held on May the Sixth in Lilongwe under the theme “Critical minds for Critical Times: Media’s Role in Advancing Peaceful, Just and Inclusive Societies”.
