The Ministry of Local Government and Rural Development has taken a swipe at non-governmental organizations, accusing them of lacking transparency and accountability when implementing projects.
Principal Secretary in the Ministry Kinswell Dakamau disclosed this on Tuesday when officials from the Ministry appeared before the Parliamentary Committee on International Relations.
According to Dakamau most non-governmental stakeholders lack transparency when it comes to disclosure of amount of money used in various projects to district council officials.
Dakamau denounced the tendency as the organizations end up venturing into projects that do not conform to the needs of the community.
However the committee observed that the Ministry fails to establish its visibility in the Councils hence it is a tough task to police non-governmental organization.
But in response, while attributing the Ministry’s lack of visibility to inadequate funding, the Principal Secretary asked the committee to lobby on its behalf for more support in the coming budget.
