As the question over who should lead the governing Democratic Progressive Party in the next general elections in 2019 gathers momentum, Bon Kalindo has become the latest figure in the party to endorse Vice President Saulos Chilima for the position.
This follows former First Lady Calista Mutharika’s open declaration last week of her backing for Chilima as the DPP’s torchbearer in the elections.
Speaking to Newsline, Mulanje South Parliamentarian Kalindo said the DPP needs new blood if it is to stand a chance in the 2019 general elections.
The matter has raised heated debate in the party with some political commentators foreseeing tough times ahead.
DPP’s National Youth Director Luis Ngalande is quoted in the media predicting many party members will speak about the leadership issue.
