The government of Malawi has hailed the People's Republic of China for its commitment in humanitarian assistance.
Vice President Saulos Chilima made the remarks on Tuesday in Ntcheu district during the official handover of a donation of Three Thousand metric tones of rice form the People's Republic of China.
The humanitarian aid is expected to reach out to over one hundred thousand households affected by hunger in some party of the country.
Chilima commended China for its continued support over the past three years which have seen Malawi suffering from climatic shocks.
However, the Vice President has urged people to venture into crop irrigation and diversification.
In his remarks, Chinese Ambassador to Malawi Shi Ting Wang said the aid is in response to the Malawi Vulnerability Assessment Committee’s report that over a million people are at risk of hunger this year due to a dry spell and army worms.
