Muluzi goes unopposed at UDF convention

President of the United Democratic Front (UDF) Atupele Muluzi has urged the party followers to remain united saying the party is ready to contest in the 2019 general elections.

Muluzi made the remarks on Wednesday during the party’s convention at Comesa Hall in Blantyre .

Muluzi who went unopposed after his challenger Lucius Banda announced he had withdrawn his candidature weeks before the convention, appealed to Malawians to be innovative for the country to develop.

In his acceptance speech, Muluzi asked delegates to the convention to stand firm for the party to triumph.

He said Malawi has a vibrant and politically engaged population especially the youth who are more than willing to transform the country.

In a rare scenario, the Democratic Progressive Party vice President for the South Kondwani Nankhumwa, DPP's Secretary General Grezelder Jeffrey and Charles Mchacha were among the dignitaries.

Meanwhile, Lilian Patel who was the party’s Eastern Region Vice President has reclaimed her position with Kandi Padambo and Katona Sichinga maintaining their positions as Secretary General and Treasure General respectively.
