A youth non-governmental organization Network for Youth Development has raised concern over the recent reduction of budget allocation to the ministry of labor, youth, sports and manpower development.
In the just ended parliament sitting government has trimmed budget allocation to the ministry from eleven point five billion kwacha down to nine point seven billion kwacha.
The decision according to the Network for Youth Development should be of concern because it is likely to suffocate youth development activities in the country.
Executive director for NFYD Gift Numeri says more worrying is the fact that the reduction has come at a time when youth rights activists are lobbying for more financing in the sector.
He says for instance, most youth developments at local levels are not adequately funded and government was supposed to increase the allocations instead of deducting.
