Timveni Child and Youth Media Organisation (commonly known as just Timveni) was established to amplify the voices of children and young people in Malawi. Launched in 2011, Timveni uses radio and Television as a platform where children and youths express their views, sharpen their talents and expose their skills at a time when the mainstream media is dominated by adult-focused content that bypassed the views of children and young people.
Over a period of time, Timveni has developed and evolved into a fully-fledged media house equipped with the staff and technology to develop, produce and broadcast powerful media content for purposes of advocacy, empowerment, awareness and entertainment.
Timveni aims at providing a platform through TV and Radio, for children and young people to actively engage duty bearers on issues that affect them.
Timveni's mission is to engage children & youths in Malawi through social programs, ensure they are protected and that their voice is heard by decision makers in order for them to become active participants in society and development work of the country, while empowering them to maximize their potential through media.
Empowered children and young people of Malawi, fully enjoying their rights and competently participating in the national agenda.
Timveni remains committed in being a leader in high quality production of social programs while maintaining the promotion of children and youths in various national development sectors.
The project aims at reducing child marriages in Malawi using the media. The Media sector is an important stakeholder in ensuring that the public is well sensitized about the consequences of child marriages and can provide a plat- form for other stakeholders such as girls and youths to share their experiences on the fight against child marriages.
Youth Out Loud is a youth media project run by Timveni, with support from UNICEF. It gives adolescents in Mangochi the opportunity to tell their own stories, about child rights issues in their communities, through radio, print and online media.
Mwauona mwala’competition has been launched on social media where young people were encouraged to look for the rocks that have painted 18+ atsikana osaphweketsa in their area and take a ‘selfie’ there, tag their friends on facebook and send it to us with any message of the child marriage that they know.
