UN Women push for justice over death of Masambuka

By Chilenje Chilenje

United Nations (UN) Women has called the Malawi police to speed up investigations and bring to book the people who took a hand in the death of Machinga based 22 year old Mackdonald Masambuka who is a person with albinism.

The call comes barely few hours after the police have arrested one of their own cops and a medical officer for allegedly taking part in the abduction of Masambuka.

Masambuka's body has been found buried near the garden of his house on Sunday after he went missing last month.

However, reacting to the development, UN Women Malawi’s Habiba Osman says it is a shocking to learn that security officers who are assigned to protect the lives of people in the country are also involved in the killings of people with albinism.

Osman has therefore appealed for speedy investigations and prosecute those involved in the barbaric act.

Meanwhile, the body of MacDonald Masambuka has been sent to Zomba Central hospital for postmortem.
