Africa now has full coronavirus testing capacity

The World Health Organization (WHO) says that laboratory capacity to test for the coronavirus is now available throughout Africa.

WHO head Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus said that at the start of the pandemic, only a dozen African countries had this ability.

But he warned that the number of virus cases was now increasing quickly and more protective equipment and laboratory tests were urgently needed.

Only a fifth of African countries have comprehensive safety plans for health workers.

There have been more than 320,000 confirmed cases of the virus in Africa and 8,500 deaths.
