100 THOUSAND HOUSEHOLDS SEEK FOOD RELIEF

By Pemphero Malimba

Authorities in Dedza district say about a hundred thousand households are in dire need of food support.

According to Dedza district social welfare officer Helen Simwaka, the elderly and persons with disabilities are most affected.

Simwaka has since appealed to well wishers and other nongovernmental organizations to intervene on the matter.

Simwaka said this on Tuesday when Amitofo Care Centre donated assorted items worth One Million Kwacha to two hundred less privileged communities from the area of Traditional Authority Kachindamoto in the district.

Senior Chief Kachindamoto commended the organization for the donation but called on other well wishers to provide assistance.

In his remarks, Director for Amitofo Care Centre Blantyre Branch Josh Weng said the organization is committed towards helping those affected by hunger.
