Reported by Aamon Butao

Government through the Ministry of Tourism, Culture and Wildlife has disclosed that Covid-19 is costing the country money amounting to Thirteen Billion Kwacha each month.

Minister responsible, Michael Usi was speaking when Malawi joined the rest of the international community on Sunday in cerebrating World Tourism Day.

According to Usi, the country’s economy has suffered the worst as revenue generation from the tourism industry has stagnated this year.

"Travel bans have restricted movement of tourists across the globe." worried, Usi.

The Minister also expressed concern over job losses and closing shop of some businesses brought about by the impact of Covid-19.

Usi said as a ministry they are ready to revamp the tourism sector post Covid-19.

"The government will lift the face of many tourism infrastructures to attract more tourists." Usi, reassured.

He then said people will have to be sensitized on the potential of tourism to boost the country’s economy.
