Lilongwe University of Agriculture and Natural Resources (LUANAR) NRC Campus Students Union president Hastings Mapundi has disclosed that over 80 students will not sit for end of semester examinations after failing to settle fees arrears.
Mapundi has revealed this in an interview with Timveni ahead of the exams which commence on 22nd August.
Despite the students’ body organizing a fundraising event in July 2022 to support 100 needy students, only 9 students were assisted with school fees.
According to Mapundi, the fundraising event managed to raise less than MWK 2 Million out of the targeted MWK200 Million to support all the 100 needy students.
Nzika Foundation also organized a music show and football match to raise funds for supporting needy students in public universities.
On this note, Mapundi has called on well-wishers to support the needy students.
He has, however, revealed that the students’ body will petition the National Assembly to amend laws that govern the loans boards with the aim of making sure that those pursuing diploma courses should also have access to the laws.
