There is a sigh of relief for students in Blantyre and Lilongwe as the Presidential Task Force on Covid-19 and Cholera has finally announced the re-opening of schools in the two cities on 17th January 2023.

The announcement comes after a two-week suspension of classes by the Ministry of Education in an attempt to contain the Cholera situation which has hit the two cities hard.

Addressing the press in Lilongwe on Thursday, Co-Chairperson of the taskforce, Khumbize Kandodo Chiponda, said authorities have been satisfied with preventive measures that are being put in place in a bid to curb the further spread of Cholera in schools.

Among other things, all schools have been disinfected in addition to banning the selling of food around school premises.

Meanwhile, Minister of Education Agnes Nyalonje has reminded parents of their responsibility in ensuring that children are taken care of at household level to prevent Cholera.
