A prominent advocate for Child and Youth Rights, Amos Chibwana has appealed to the younger generation in the country to refrain from engaging in acts of violence against the elderly.
This appeal comes in light of the disturbing rise in assaults committed by young individuals, who base their actions on unfounded witchcraft allegations.
During an interview with Timveni, Chibwana emphasized the importance of cherishing and caring for the elderly, as they possess a wealth of wisdom and experience that can greatly benefit society as a whole.
He further stressed the urgent need for heightened awareness campaigns to effectively address this pressing issue.
Statistics provided by the Malawi Network of Older Persons Organization have revealed that a staggering 22 elderly individuals lost their lives due to violence within the first eight months of 2023.
