ADRA DONATES MEDICAL EQUIPMENT TO GOVT

By Kenson McCloud

Adventist Development and Relief Agency (ADRA) has on Wednesday donated assorted medical equipment and supplies to the Ministry of Health amounting to MWK 69 Million in an effort to ease the pressure on the country’s health sector which faces chronic challenges of inadequate medical equipment.

The donation includes laboratory and surgical equipment.

Speaking during the presentation, President of the Seventh Day Adventist Church Pastor Tony Nyirenda said the church was touched by recent natural disasters that have overwhelmed the country’s health sector.

Nyirenda said the donation is part of the church's commitment to complement government’s efforts of providing quality health services to citizens.

However, he appealed to government to ensure that the medical equipment reaches the targeted beneficiaries.

In her remarks, Minister of Health Khumbize Kandodo Chiponda commended ADRA for the timely donation which she says will go a long way in addressing some of the challenges medical facilities continue to face.

Chiponda admitted that her ministry is currently overstretched in terms of resources due to emergencies it is currently handling.

She cited the Covid-19 pandemic, Polio Public Emergency and rising cases of Cholera due to floods.

She has since given assurance that every region will benefit from the donation.
