The Association of Persons with Albinism in Malawi has called on government to be transparent in the management of resources allocated to persons with albinism.
APAM President Ian Simbota said this in an interview with Timveni.
Simbota said, "It's high time that APAM’s mother Ministry made public how resources channeled to people with disabilities are used."
According to Simbota, such accountability should be visible in the 2021/2022 proposed national budget which has seen the allocation of Four Hundred Million Kwacha towards construction of houses for persons with albinism.
"Failure to disclose how resources are being managed creates concern and mistrust from the general citizenry," said Simbota.
He also said for the sake of accountability, APAM is also transparent in management of donor funds.
