Child rights commentator Amos Chibwana has joined calls from various stakeholders urging parents and guardians to remain focused and provide maximum protection to children during the festive season.
Chibwana underlined that vigilance is required over the holidays as children also face the danger of facing abuse.
The activist also asked parents and guardians to be on the lookout to ensure youths do not engage in drug and substance abuse over Christmas and New Year.
Chibwana said immoral activities have huge implications on the future of many youths.
He emphasized that collaboration across the board; from parents to community leaders and law enforcers must be stepped up.
Meanwhile, Police have also given the general public some security tips like to always ensure someone remains behind to look after the house, to be vigilant against child traffickers and protect children from sexual abuse and freak accidents from devices like fireworks.
Essau Kamwendo is national child protection officer at the Malawi Police Service and says law enforcers are geared up to provide maximum security over the holidays.
