CHILD RIGHTS ACTIVIST BLAMES MPS FOR DEFEATING ABORTION BILL

A youth and child rights activist has blamed Members of Parliament for blocking the tabling of the Termination of Pregnancy Bill on Thursday.
Fred Nyondo has told Timveni that, "The best thing Legislators could have done was to understand the contents of the bill than barring any discussion about the proposed law altogether."
Nyondo warned that Thursday’s events in Parliament have set a bad precedent.
"Members of Parliament have missed the opportunity to save girls and women who procure underground abortion resulting from incest or sexual abuse, which are some of the grounds that the bill which has been rejected is advocating to be legalized," highlighted Nyondo.
The activist said the country cannot continue bearing the cost of lives and resources lost due to abortions that go wrong.
A study found that annually the country uses about K 500 million to help deal with complications from botched terminations.
