CHILD RIGHTS ACTIVIST DECRIES INCREASE IN DEFILEMENT CASES

Some child activists have expressed concern over continued rise in defilement cases.
The remarks have come as Malawi recorded a number of arrests in connection to defilement over the past days.
Last week, a chief who had been on the run for allegedly defiling three girls in Dedza district was arrested while a teacher in Ntchisi district was also apprehended.
Speaking to Timveni news desk, one of the child rights commentators Fred Nyondo said, "It is discouraging that children are being abused by the very people held in high esteem in society."
Nyondo said to deal with the malpractice, the country should enforce existing laws as well as raising awareness.
