CONCERNED CITIZENS TO HELP MUTHARIKA SETTLE K69M COURT FINE

By Aamon Butao

A pressure group under the flag Concerned Citizens has called on well-wishers to bail out former President Peter Mutharika who was slapped with  K69.5 million fine for undermining the Judiciary.

Mutharika and former Chief Secretary to the Government Lloyd Muhara were last Friday given a 14 day deadline to pay the money after they were both found in the wrong for sending Chief Justice Andrew Nyirenda and Judge Edward Twea into early retirement.

During Tuesday’s media briefing in Lilongwe, National Chairperson for the group Mundango Nyirenda said, "Mutharika will not afford to pay the money as his bank accounts were frozen by the state."

Nyirenda said the former president is aware of the initiative but stressed the resource mobilization drive will only support Mutharika’s bill.

Nyirenda said the group will release bank details for people to channel their funds.
