Government has given a go ahead to China Railway 20 company, to commence construction work of Bangula-Nsanje-Marka railway line project.
In an interview with Timveni Online, Principal Secretary in the Ministry of Transport and Public Works, Hastings Chiudzu said once completed, the 72 kilometer stretch will among other things revamp the Sena line which connects Malawi to the port of Beira in Mozambique.
Among others the company will design the railway-line, upgrade and rehabilitate it to the tune of MWK69 Billion.
The node by the government comes at a time when traditional leaders in Nsanje district have been pushing for a speedy work in the rehabilitation process.
Meanwhile, Nsanje District Commissioner Dr Medson Matchaya, has applauded government for the work saying it will boost bilateral trade between Malawi and other countries.
