 CYBER BULLYING DRIVES GIRLS OFFLINE

By Kenson McCloud

Plan International Malawi has called on government to implement laws specifically dealing with online gender based violence and delivery of justice for girls who are victims of cyber bullying.

The call comes against a background of research findings that Fifty-Eight percent of girls and women are subjected to harassment via the internet.

In light of this challenge, Plan International Malawi has launched a campaign aimed at creating awareness on cyber bullying to ensure girls are protected from online abuse.

Most girls, according to Plan International Malawi Communications and Campaign Manager Rodgers Siula, do not get enough support when faced with online bullying.

Siula said different stakeholders are being engaged to be part of the year-long project adding that government has given its backing with President Lazarus Chakwera signing a petition in support of the campaign.

Second Lady Mary Chilima has been chosen Ambassador for the initiative.
