The department of Climate Change and Meteorological Services has warned the country should anticipate flush floods as a result of tropical cyclone Chalane.
According to the department, the cyclone will hit Mozambique by 30 December which will result into heavy rains and thunderstorms in southern, central and along lakeshore areas.
The director of Climate Change and Meteorological services, Jolamu Nkhokwe said the department is closely monitoring the situation and will keep on updating the nation on the progress.
Nkhokwe explained that during this time, the public should get ready for the storms and take precautionary measures provided by the department seriously.
According to Nkhokwe, the public should avoid crossing the rivers when they are full.
Nkhokwe added that the drainage systems should be cleared to ensure free flow of water and prevent further floods from happening.
