The Department of Tourism has called on The Treasury to resume implementation of the 1% Tourism Levy.

Treasury ordered brief suspension of the levy last year to cushion tourism operators from the impact of Covid-19.

Annually, K300 Million revenue is collected from the tourism levy.

Speaking during a media workshop on implementation of Domestic Tourism Marketing Strategy, Chief Tourism officer responsible for public relations Sara Njanji said, “The suspension of the levy has greatly affected the department.

According to Njanji, the money collected was used for marketing in different platforms to attract more tourists from abroad.

But he however said the department is coming up with different strategies to make sure the industry is moving forward.
