Governance stakeholders have advised the newly appointed Ombudsman Grace Malera to work in the best interest of Malawians.
Malera replaces Martha Chizuma after she passed interviews conducted by the Public Appointments Committee of Parliament on Thursday.
Speaking to Timveni News Desk, one of the country’s political commentators George Phiri says the Ombudsman-elect should stand firm against political interference.
"Malera should not work to please the appointing authority but Malawians," said Phiri.
He also urged Malera to maintain the momentum set by her predecessor.
In his remarks, Executive Director for the Center for Human Rights and Rehabilitation Michael Kaiyatsa has expressed optimism that Malera will meet public expectations.
