Caregivers under early childhood development will have to wait a little bit longer to be put on government payroll after they were not considered in the Two point Two Trillion Kwacha 2020/2021 National Budget.
The matter has been a long standing issue which has seen child centered stakeholders calling for immediate address.
But speaking to Timveni, Director of Children Affairs in the Ministry of Gender, Community Development and Social Welfare McKnight Kalanda said recent events have forced government to scale down on some operations.
Kalanda cited fresh Presidential elections and impact of Covid-19 as having overstretched government’s purse.
He said the Ministry will still engage the Treasury to make consider giving caregivers a salary.
