EXPERTS EXPRESS OPTIMISM OVER CHAKWERA’S VISIT TO ZAMBIA


The Polytechnic based economic expert Betchani TcherenisaysPresident Lazarus Chakwera’s maiden state visit to Zambia this week is economically viable to Malawi.
Speaking to Timveni, Tchereni said the two neighbors have rich bilateral ties hence the one-day trip will further boost trade between Lilongwe and Lusaka.
According to Tchereni, Malawi stands to benefit from the visit by learning from Zambia on how best to utilize the mining sector for socio and economic development.
Policy wise, the economic analyst further adds President Chakwera could pluck a leaf from his Zambian counterpart on economic stability
Meanwhile, a political commentator has hailed the foreign visit as an opportunity to mend relations between the two nations which have been patchy over the past years.
Humphreys Mvula cited arrest of Michael Sata who later became President of Zambia as a case in point of frosty relations between the two.
He said the visit also provides opportunity for President Lazarus Chakwera and President Edgar Lungu to map the way forward on how to boost trade.
