FEDOMA ASKS GOVT TO WALK THE TALK ON IMPROVING WELFARE OF PERSONS WITH DISABILITY

By Aamon Butao

As Minister of Finance is set to present the 2021/2022 Budget Statement this Friday, there has been an outcry from the Federation of Disability Organizations in Malawi (FEDOMA) that the previous national budget fell short of benefitting people with disabilities.

According to  FEDOMA Acting Director Symon Munde, there has been abuse of resources channeled towards improving the welfare of persons with disabilities.

"Despite the National Action Plan for Persons with Disabili ty being allocated K 400 million, there is nothing on the ground to show for." said Munde.

He has since challenged government to ensure prudent finance management.

Munde further expressed concern that people with disabilities are confronting a myriad of obstacles resulting from lack of support.

On this note, he appealed to authorities to increase funding to programs targeting people with disability in the upcoming 2021/2022 national budget.
