GOVERNMENT LAMENTS ABOUT LACK OF FINANCIAL RESOURCES TO UPLIFT THE LIVES OF CHILDREN WITH DISABILITIES

By  Aamon Butao

Government, through the Ministry of Gender, Community Development and Social Welfare, says lack of funds is affecting the rolling out of some strategies to promote the welfare of children with disabilities.

Director of Child Affairs in the Ministry, Mcknight Kalanda, said this in an interview with Timveni as children with disabilities continue facing numerous challenges.

Kalanda said the Ministry has a community-based inclusive strategy which is the backbone of efforts aimed at making sure that the welfare of children with disabilities improves in all sectors such as education and health.

According to Kalanda, despite the strategy being in place, some activities are not implemented due to lack of resources.

On this note, Kalanda applauded some organizations like Save the Children who are supporting initiatives aimed at uplifting the lives of children with disabilities through a project called Inclusive Early Childhood Development.

Kalanda has also called on other organizations and companies to support government in promoting the lives of children with disabilities.
