GOVT CALLS FOR MORE SUPPORT TOWARDS ECD

As Africa is set to commemorate the Day of the African Child on Wednesday, government has called for concerted efforts in championing early childhood development initiatives.

Speaking to the media in Lilongwe, Minister of Gender, Social Welfare and Community Development Patricia Kaliati expressed regret that most organizations neglect ECD in strategic plans.

Kaliati reaffirmed government’s commitment in developing ECD in the country.

" 150 ECD centers are under construction with funding from World Bank," said Kaliati.

However, Kaliati saluted organizations like Action Aid Malawi for complementing government's effort by constructing Four Hundred and Eighty ECD centers.

In his remarks, National Director for SOS, Smart Namagonya said government should take the leading role in promoting ECD and stakeholders will follow.
