Minister of Gender, Community Development and Social Welfare has said government is committed to ensure that children with disabilities learn in a conducive environment.

The remarks have been made after concerns that most needy students with disabilities are facing numerous challenges in schools.

According to Patricia Kaliati, the government is championing disability friendly infrastructure including in Early Childhood Development Centres.

"We have done an assesment into the infrastructures we are constructing so that children with disability should not have any challanges accessing them," said Kaliati.

Kaliati said ECD’s are essential towards identifying children with disabilities at an early stage.

"There are physicians who are able to identify children with disabilities at an ealy stage and assist them accordingly," said Kaliati.

Currently, government is set to construct over five hundred ECDs which have prioritised the needs of children with disabilities.
