By Wilson Allan Phiri
Principal Secretary in the Ministry of Gender, Community Development and Social Welfare Rosalyn Makhumula says preparations are at an advanced stage to roll out the National Children’s Commission next year.
There have been growing concerns from child rights centered stakeholders over little progress made despite Parliament approving a bill in 2018 to establish the commission.
In an interview with Timveni, Makhumula said currently officials are developing polices and guidelines to ensure effectiveness in protection of children’s rights across the nation.
Meanwhile, Makhumula described the development of the commission as a milestone in monitoring implementation of recommendations from the national Children's Parliament.
She stressed the Tonse Alliance government is working round the clock to have the commission operational next year.
