By Wilson Allan Phiri

Inadequate funding towards efforts aimed at empowering women is said to be a major factor affecting implementation of government policies.

Timveni has established that in view of this government is lobbing for more support on the sidelines of the ongoing United Nations General Assembly being held in the United States of America.

Meanwhile minister of Gender, Community development and Social Welfare Patricia Kaliati said on top of the country’s main agenda at the general assembly is the need for review of global policies to empower women.

Kaliati said, "Women are facing social economic challenges which are also increasing poverty levels of the marginalized."

The UNGA meeting began on 14th September and is expected to end on 30th September 2021, and President Lazarus Chakwera is leading Malawi’s delegation by attending the meetings virtually.
