GOVT SNUB COMMUNITY COLLEGES PROJECT IN NEW BUDGET

By Wilson Allan Phiri
The Centre for Youth Empowerment and Civic Education has expressed disappointment with government’s failure to sustain the community colleges project in the proposed 2021/2022 national budget.
The construction of community colleges, a brainchild of the Democratic Progressive Party administration, was hatched in a bid to equip young people with entrepreneurial skills amidst a spike in youth unemployment.
According to Centre for Youth Empowerment and Civic Education Executive Director Lucky Mbewe, community colleges have proved to be "effective in transforming lives of young people".
Mbewe has however warned politicians against politicizing polices meant to benefit future generations.
