Government says there is need to explore and arrest mental health problem among young people in the country.
Deputy Director for the Reproductive Health Unit in the Ministry of Health Dr Henry Phiri says government is not doing enough in combating the problem.
"Government and other stakeholders have placed much emphasis on sexual and reproductive health and rights forgetting the mental aspect," admitted Phiri.
Mental health appears to be a neglected issue that is impacting heavily on young people.
Phiri said there is need for immediate interventions to address the situation.
In the 2015-2020 National Youth Health Services Strategy, Malawi made commitments to remove barriers and increase youth access to sexual reproductive health information, knowledge and services.
