GOVT TO CONSTRUCT 900 HEALTH POSTS IN ONE YEAR

Heath rights expert Maziko Matemba has applauded President Lazarus Chakwera for announcing government will construct 900 health posts in hard to reach areas.

Chakwera said this during the State of the Nation Address he delivered on Wednesday when officially opening the 2021/2022 budget meeting of the 49th Session of Parliament.

Dr. Chakwera said his ambition is to have a health facility every five kilometers to ensure there are no challenges in access to health care.

"In the meantime, at community level we will continue promoting and strengthening the use of digital health through an intergrated Community Health Information System that promises to transform community health care delivery and harmonise all community health data," said Chakwera.

Responding to the President’s commitment, one of the country’s health rights experts Maziko Matemba said this is the right move to achieve universal health coverage.

Maziko said with the growing population the country is struggling to provide quality health service especially in rural areas.
