GVT RISKS LOSING $71B OVER CONTRACT TERMINATION WITH KHATO CIVILS

By Meclina Chirwa

Government risks losing over $71 Billion once it terminates its contract with Khato Civils on the Lilongwe-Salima water project.

Reports indicate that government is finalizing discussions with World Bank to find a contractor for the Diamphwe water project.

In an interview with Timveni, chairperson of the Parliamentary Committee on Natural Resources and Climate Change Werani Chilenga said there is “credible evidence” government intends to terminate contract with Khato.

“It is very unfortunate that government has chosen to abuse tax payers’ money without valid reasons,” Chilenga said.

Chilenga said the committee will write a report which will be discussed in the next meeting of Parliament on the future of the Lilongwe-Salima water project.
