HEALTH RIGHTS ACTIVIST CALLS FOR GOVT TO ENGAGE IN MASS SENSITIZATION CAMPAIGN ON JOHNSON AND JOHNSON VAX

One of the country’s health rights activists has said lack of information on the new Johnson and Johnson vaccine is likely to affect uptake.
Monday’s observations from different centres where the vaccine is being administered showed low turn up as compared to AstraZeneca immunization campaign in July.
In an interview with Timveni, executive director of the Malawi Health Equity Network, George Jobe said, "People still need more information on Johnson and Johnson safety and effectiveness before getting the vaccine."
Jobe said although there has been sensitization on the AstraZeneca vaccine, little has been done for Johnson and Johnson.
He further advised government to involve community leaders in the awareness campaign.
The country received more than Three Hundred Thousand doses of Johnson and Johnson on Saturday under the COVAX scheme.
