HRDC FAULT PARTIES FOR NOT OBSERVING SOCIAL DISTANCE

By Emma Zawanda

The Human Rights Defenders Coalition has faulted contestants in the upcoming by elections on March 30 for complete disregard of Covid-19 prevention measures on the campaign trail.

HRDC Chairperson Gift Trapence said "the relaxed approach to the pandemic is a mockery to the rule of law" and has warned rallies being conducted flout ban on public gatherings of more than fifty.

According to Trapence, strict adherence of measures by the faith community is clear signal about the seriousness of the Corona Virus.

Trapence has challenged the Malawi Electoral Commission and Police to keep in check all candidates in the by-elections in as far as following Covid-19 precautionary measures is concerned.
