HRDC WORRIES OVER DELAYS IN RECOVERY OF COVID FUNDS

By Chisomo Daniels

The Human Rights Defenders Coalition-HRDC has called on authorities to ensure that all the people involved in the abuse of Covid-19 funds face the long arm of the law.

The call comes following reports that some officials connected to the plunder are still paying back the money.

But speaking to Timveni chairperson for the Human Rights Defenders Coalition Gift Trapence said although the money recovery process is underway, they are concerned that those connected are not prosecuted.

"If the country is really serious about rooting out corruption, concerned stakeholders should not end at recovering the money but ensuring that the suspects are paraded in courts and if found guilty they should be convicted," said Trapence

He further urged police and other relevant stakeholders to speed-up investigations on the matter.

Among those that have paid back the money is leader of opposition in parliament Kondwani Nankhumwa.
