ILLEGAL MINING COSTING MW MWK30 MILLION /MONTH

The Parliamentary Committee on Natural Resources and Climate Change says government is losing MWK30 Million everyday due to illegal mining.

Chairperson of the Committee, Werani Chilenga, said this on Monday in Parliament when he quizzed Minister of Mining Albert Mbawala on the illegal mining happening in the country especially at Kasiya.

According to Chilenga, government is failing to control the illegal miners who have penetrated in most parts of the country, hence costing the country a lot.

He said it is unfortunate that despite the country having strong punishments on illegal mining, people are still opening mining companies illegally.
